Doug Wright and Steve Salles talk to Alan Peterson about directing the movie "Trek". The film follows Tom, a young member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and his teen Mormon friends, as they embark on that rite of passage -- the LDS trek. Every summer, families recreate the handcart journey of the pioneers who pulled their own carts across the plains and over the Rocky Mountains to Utah, and this film looks at both the lighter side of that (like kids trying to smuggle in unsanctioned food) and the more serious side - how even without having to blaze a trail in real life, experiences like this one can strengthen anyone's faith.

The movie was directed by Alan Peterson and written by newcomer Jon Enos and veteran David Howard, who wrote 1999's Galaxy Quest. Distributed by Salt Lake City-based Excel Entertainment, Trek will be released in theaters in April.

Doug Wright and Steve Salles talk movies and the importance of heart health at the Intermountain Medical Center community heart fair. The infamous Movie Show is once again on the road. We know, we're just as surprised as you are that so many places keep welcoming us to do our unique brand of film and family entertainment reviews at their businesses.

Unfortunately, Hollywood only gave us one new offering at the box office this week: Winchester, based on the 24/7 construction project that was the obsession of the heiress to the fortune built on the creation of a famous rifle. But with all the Academy Award nominees getting attention at the art house theaters and elsewhere, there's still plenty of Magic Store reviewing and buzz.

Feb 2, 2018

Doug Wright and Steve Salles talk about the TAVR procedure that is going to be available in the near future with Brian Hunter at Intermountain Medical Center. TAVR is a type of valve replacement heart surgery that does not require opening the chest. In other words, it's heart surgery but not OPEN heart surgery. A catheter goes up through an artery in the leg, much like is done in a balloon procedure to open a blockage for someone in a heart cath lab. It will be a good option for people who are considered high risk for surgery but who need a new aortic valve. It's minimally invasive and a much easier recovery for the patient.

If your heart can take it, they also do telephone torture. And somewhere in there, they manage to find time to talk about and review Winchester, the week's new box office release. The movie, inspired by the true life of the heiress to the fortune generated by the sale of a rifle, follows Academy Award winner Helen Mirren's Sarah Winchester, painted as a woman driven mad by the sins her family's famous weapon has perpetuated.
